On June 17th, at the Awards for Excellence in Public Relations, Beachhut PR’s Mark O’Toole was named the 2016 Young Communications Professional of the Year.
The judges commended Mark for his:
“Career history which demonstrated the ability to be effective in challenging situations and established genuine credentials at the heart of an important industry sector.
“His entrepreneurial vision for the PR industry as being a business without borders, both at a personal and a national level.
“And commitment to leadership in terms of developing and growing a small PR firm and upskilling the people working in it.”
In an industry where newer platforms and methods for communication are continuously emerging, Mark believes that practitioners should focus on basics.
“You need to be able to understand narrative – a story,” he said in an interview prior to the awards .
While the award is an individual accomplishment for Mark, it also serves as a validation for the success and expansion of Beachhut PR in the last year. The company, founded by CEO Paul Hayes, has evolved to become the leading agency in helping tech entrepreneurs receive international coverage on all levels.
Mark spends most of his time providing coverage throughout Europe and all across the globe by maintaining personal and professional relationships with international press at trade shows and conferences. He has recently returned from Intercom’s global tour in Berlin and will soon depart for MoneyConf in Madrid.
“We get coverage for clients in some of the world’s biggest outlets like the New York Times, Business Insider and CNBC but we also know that the specialist trade platforms are what really moves the needle for shifting product,” Mark said.
Martyn Rosney, recipient of the title in 2015, captured Mark and Paul’s reactions from a view across the table.
